Ted Talbert III: Fulfilled dream of being a police officer

Veteran Detroit police officer Ted Talbert III died of colon cancer Monday at the Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit after an extended bout with the illness. The Belleville resident was 41. On the force for 13 years, his most recent assignment was in the 6th Precinct as a member of the auto theft unit.

Colon Cancer Research: Prestigious $4.9 Million NIH Grant Awarded To Case Western Reserve

A prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) Transformative R01 Program grant for $4.9 million has been awarded to Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. The five-year grant will fund research to identify patients' inborn genetic susceptibility to the development of colon cancer metastasis.

Group warns aspirin an unhealthy way to prevent colon cancer

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- People at average risk for colon cancer shouldn't take aspirin or painkillers like ibuprofen to try to prevent the disease, a federal task force advises, because of the risk of bleeding and other potential health problems.
