A LARGE daily dose of vitamin D can lower the risk of developing common cancers by as much as 50 per cent, scientists said yesterday. U.S. researchers who reviewed 63 studies found that D3 can dramatically reduce the chance of developing breast, ovarian and colon cancer.

Mayo Clinic brings first broad pharmacogenomics test to cancer patients

Mayo Clinic has validated and will offer to patients worldwide a test that enables its laboratory to determine through genetic screening which patients are likely to have a serious adverse reaction to irinotecan hydrochloride, a key component of the standard first-line treatment for advanced colon cancer and rectal cancer.

Older colon cancer patients benefit from a caregiver

Colon cancer patients who are 65 and older may benefit from a caregiver’s involvement, and caregivers may ultimately have a major impact on patients’ disease management, according to a survey of oncologists commissioned by the Alliance for Aging Research.
